Tadese leads field for RAK Half Marathon

Deep fields have been announced for the Ras Al Khaimah Half Marathon on February 12. Led by world record-holder Zersenay Tadese from Eritrea, the men s field includes 13 runners with lifetime bests under the one hour mark. Notable names in the line-up include Abraham Cheroben (58:48 PB), New York Marathon winner Stanley Biwott (58:56), former world record-holder Wilson Kipsang (58:59), 2008 Olympic 10,000m bronze medallist Micah Kogo (59:07) and world 10km and 15km record-holder Leonard Komon (59:14).

The women s field is no less impressive with 12 women with sub-69 minute PBs lining up. Notables include former London and New York winner Priscah Jeptoo (65:45), Amsterdam Marathon winner Joyce Chepkirui (66:19), world half-marathon champion Gladys Cherono (66:38), and London Marathon-bound Aselefech Mergia (67:21).

The course records are held by Patrick Makau (58:52) and Mary Keitany (65:50). Information from organisers.

Harrison and Ali in Karlsruhe hurdles

The 2007 world and 2008 Olympic triple jump champion Nelson Evora from Portugal will go head-to-head with European champion Benjamin Compaore at the IAAF World Indoor Tour meeting in Karlsruhe on February 6, organisers have announced.

World-leader Marie-Laurence Jungfleisch also goes head-to-head on home soil with multi-events specialist Nadine Broersen in the high jump, while world 100m hurdles silver medallist Cindy Roleder takes on the recently-announced American duo of Kendra Harrison, who set a 7.83 world-lead at the weekend, and world indoor champion Nia Ali, in the 60m hurdles.

Vlasic for Banska Bystrica

Legendary Croatian high jumper Blanka Vlasic confirmed her appearance at the 22nd Banska Bystrica high jump meet on February 4. She will return to the meeting for first time since 2010. Before that she competed there five times and four times was the winner. Her meet record from the 2006 edition is 2.05m. Vlasic is set to open her season this Friday at the indoor high jump meet in Split, Croatia.

Also in the field in Slovakia is set to be Pan Am Games winner Levern Spencer of St. Lucia, British outdoor record-holder Isobel Pooley and Swedish duo Sofie Skoog and Ebba Jungmark. Nigerian record-holder Doreen Amata adds to the line-up and it will also be interesting to see the duel for top junior high jumper as Britain’s double world junior champion Morgan Lake will face world youth champion Michaela Hruba of Czech Republic and Ukraine’s Yulia Levchenko, who won the Youth Olympic Games in 2014.

All of the jumpers except for Vlasic are due to continue for the second leg of the international high jump tour to be held on February 7 in Trinec, Czech Republic.

Sprinters head South Africa team for Portland

World bronze medallist Anaso Jobodwana and South African joint 100m record-holder Henricho Bruintjies are to lead the South African team for the World Indoor Championships where they will compete over 60m.

Also in the team are long jumpers Zarck Visser and Ruswahl Samaai and Willem Coertzen for the heptathlon. The full team can be found on the IAAF website here.
