Coe in DohaIn his first official appearance as the new Diamond League chairman, IAAF president Seb Coe visited Doha the host city of the first 2016 IAAF Diamond League competition. Coe said that the Diamond League series needs to be reviewed in order to maximise its impact. To take the popularity of the event to the next level, we need to attract a bigger audience,” he said. My vision is to engage more young people to the sport. The average age of those following athletics nowadays is 55. This is not sustainable. We want the youth to come and watch our stars. We need to establish younger audiences in the Middle East which is an economic powerhouse, a growing market.” After missing the 2015 edition of the Doha Diamond League, due to the absence of high jump from the schedule, local and international star Mutaz Essa Barshim is expected to return on home turf this season.
