Sprinters to return to Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park for the Diamond League meeting in July

James Dasaolu and Richard Kilty are set to go up against the likes of Kemar Bailey-Cole, Michael Rodgers, Marvin Bracy and Kim Collins in the Sainsbury’s Anniversary Games 100m on July 24.

The Diamond League meeting returns to London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park this summer after taking place in Glasgow last year.

Dasaolu’s only previous appearance of racing in the Olympic Stadium came at the 2012 Games and he is looking forward to returning to the track.

“I can’t wait for the Sainsbury’s Anniversary Games,” said the sub-10 second man. “It’s a great event and an iconic stadium so it will be amazing to compete in front of such a big British crowd again.

“My training is going well and this will be a great test for me a month out from the World Championships. I will do my best – a good race will set me up perfectly for Beijing.”

Kilty, who ran a 10.04 PB at the Birmingham Diamond League meeting earlier this month, now has a sub-10 second clocking in his sights.

“It would be great to run sub-10 there. I’m very confident at the moment,” said the world and European indoor 60m champion.

“British sprinting is absolutely amazing at the moment and everybody is buzzing to be part of it. The attitude in our sprinters has improved and we all want to achieve higher things on the world stage, so I think that’s why it s brought it forward. Once you have one or two guys running really fast times the rest of us realise we can do it and everyone steps up and it’s a domino effect.”

The three-day meeting sees Diamond League action take place on the Friday and Saturday before the IPC Athletics Grand Prix Final on Sunday July 26.

Two men’s 100m races were held when the Diamond League meeting last took place in London in 2013, with Usain Bolt clocking 9.85 to win the second.

A men’s 200m is also set to take place on Friday July 24, while the women’s sprint events are set to be held on the Saturday.
