We are looking for a writer to join the Athletics Weekly teamDo you enjoy the idea of writing about the No.1 Olympic sport? With the Rio Olympics only a year away and the IAAF World Championships coming to home soil in 2017, Athletics Weekly has a vacancy for a UK-based staff writer to join its news and events reporting team. This role requires: Qualifications and preferably previous experience in journalism. Athletics knowledge, interest and enthusiasm. Do you know Usain Bolt’s world records or how to spell Haile’s surname without looking them up, for example? Awareness of who the key players are in the sport, UK and overseas, whether political, governing body, coach, athlete or agent. Proactivity – do you have a nose for news? Can you investigate a good story whilst remaining objective and balanced in your reporting? Will you grasp the opportunity or shirk from the challenge? Stamina to contribute to the production of a busy weekly magazine and website in a sport that never sleeps. If you’re after a Monday-Friday, 9-5 job this role is not for you. A stickler for accuracy? In addition to producing flawless articles, you may help with proof-reading. The ability to work well under pressure, to acute deadlines and often unsociable hours. A self starter, happy to work from home (UK-based) or on location at events all around the athletics map? A good working knowledge of InDesign would be a distinct advantage in this role.
