European 10,000m champion looking forward to testing her fitness on May 25 ahead of the summer season

Jo Pavey is to race at the Bupa London 10,000 on May 25 as the European 10,000m champion looks to test her fitness ahead of the summer season.

The 41-year-old claimed her first major championship title in Zurich last August just 10 days after winning 5000m bronze at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

She is yet to race in 2015 and will return to the annual Bupa London 10,000 on Whit Bank Holiday Monday for the first time since 2011 when she became the first British winner of the women’s race, beating Gemma Steel and Paula Radcliffe just six weeks after making her debut at the Virgin Money London Marathon.

“Last year was an incredible one for me, and completely unexpected,” said Pavey.

“After finally winning gold in Zurich I am keen to get back out racing again and the Bupa London 10,000 will be a great way to test my fitness ahead of the summer.

“With the World Championships coming up in August and the Rio Olympic Games around the corner in 2016 this will be the perfect platform for the track season.

“I enjoyed racing through London against Gemma and Paula in 2011 and am looking forward to another good performance this time.”

The Bupa London 10,000 incorporates the British Athletics 10km Championships. The runners will start on The Mall in St James’s Park, run east down the Strand before heading into the City of London over Holborn Viaduct. They will return down Whitehall and Birdcage Walk to finish on Spur Road outside Buckingham Palace.

The event forms the second part of a weekend of road running action around central London which will start on the Sunday morning with the third edition of the Bupa Westminster Mile – a series of races around St James s Park for runners of all ages and abilities.

This year s Westminster Mile event marks 30 years since Steve Cram broke the world mile record in the Dream Mile at Oslo s Bislett Stadium in July 1985, his time still standing as the British record.
