A record number of talented young British athletes will this year receive more than 40,000 in grants from the RPMF

World junior and world youth medallists are among the young athletes who are to receive support from the Ron Pickering Memorial Fund (RPMF) in 2015.

World youth champions Sabrina Bakare and Harry Coppell plus world junior silver medallist Shona Richards are among the 185 athletes from 105 different clubs to have been handed grants amounting to 41,950 from the RPMF.

Aimed at supporting athletes aged mainly 15-23, the money helps to buy training shoes and kit and go towards travel and accommodation expenses, plus gives athletes the boost of knowing that they have been recognised.

More than three-quarters of British track and field teams at recent Olympics have benefitted from RPMF grants at some stage – including Jessica Ennis-Hill, Christine Ohuruogu, Phillips Idowu and others – and it continues to support the championship medallists of tomorrow with this latest wave of recipients which was chosen from more than 400 applications.

Of the athletes who are being helped, 40% are sprinters or hurdlers, with 21% being throwers, 19% middle-distance runners, 14% jumpers and 6% combined eventers.

You can find the full list of RPMF 2015 grant recipients here.

In addition to this, the RPMF still has places should anyone wish to ‘Run for Ron’ at the London or Greater Manchester marathons and help to raise money for the Fund. Click here to find out more.
