Event will see 10,000 people run five-mile course in newly-developed park

Entry has opened for The National Lottery Newham London Anniversary Run which will see runners return to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park to run a five-mile route on July 20.

There are 10,000 spots available for the event, which follows last year’s Anniversary Run – the first event to be held in the Olympic Stadium after the London 2012 closing ceremony – and the 2012 National Lottery Olympic Park Run, which was the first public event inside the Stadium.

The course will take runners through the redeveloped park, past iconic venues such as the Lee Valley VeloPark, London Aquatics Centre and the Copper Box Arena.

“The National Lottery Newham London Anniversary Run on 20 July will give people a wonderful experience of running in the newly-developed Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park,” commented Brendan Foster, chairman of event organiser Nova International. “The event is bound to reignite many fantastic memories of London 2012 and we are working to make this event one of our best ever.”

Last year’s event saw runners follow in the footsteps of their sporting idols and take to the track of the Olympic Stadium but redevelopment work means this year’s run will not take participants inside the iconic venue. However, organiers have announced that anyone who successfully gains entry into The National Lottery Newham London Anniversary Run in 2014 will also be given priority entry to gain a place in the 2015 event which will once again finish in the stadium.

In addition to the 10,000 places available for the main five-mile event, there are 2000 places for a 1.5-mile family run, with Newham Council offering 1000 adult and 300 family places to residents for them to take part in the event for free.

“I am pleased to announce over 1000 free places are available for Newham residents to take part in The National Lottery Newham London Anniversary Run,” said Sir Robin Wales, Mayor of the London Borough of Newham. “This is a fantastic offer which demonstrates how the council is making the legacy of the 2012 Games real. These places will ensure residents can participate for free in a unique run which will take in some of the most iconic locations from the Games, as well as encouraging them to lead an active and healthy life.”

Entry for the five-mile run is now open at www.anniversaryrun.com and priced at 25 while applications for the 1.5-mile family run can be made from 10am on April 2, with a cost of 5 per entrant. Places will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
