Away from London Marathon action, this past week saw many other promising performances including a British junior hammer record by Taylor Campbell

All eyes were on the Virgin Money London Marathon this weekend but there were a number of other athletics highlights.

Warsaw Marathon, Poland, April 26

Hayle Lemi Berhanu, who is just 21, won his third marathon in 2:07:57.

Ethiopia also won the women’s race through Fatuma Sado’s 2:26:25, which was a course record by nearly two minutes.

Rock n Roll Madrid Marathon, Spain, April 26

Ezekiel Kiptoo Chebii retained his title, clocking 2:12:00. Monica Jepkoech completed a Kenyan double as she won the women s race in 2:33:42.

Terry O’Gara Memorial 5km, Wallsend, April 26

Carl Smith won the men’s race in 15:16 and Justina Heslop won the women’s race in 16:54.

Track and field

Gaineseville, April 24

Bahamian Shaunae Miller won the 400m in a then world-leading 50.17. In the 100m, Keston Bledman also set a world lead with 10.01/1.5 Briton James Ellington ran 10.20.

Trinida’s Kelly-Ann Baptiste clocked a sub-11 in the 100m with 10.98/0.2. Najee Glass won the 400m in 44.79.

European champion Dafne Schippers won the 200m in 22.63 while Kendra Harrison won the hurdles in 12.62/0.9.

Briton Lorraine Ugen won the long jump with 6.72/1.8. Other Britons faring well included Danny Talbot who was second in the 200m with 20.74 and Jack Green who was third in the 400m hurdles in 49.55 behind Ireland’s Thomas Barr’s 49.08.

Philadelphia, April 25

There were world leads in the men’s 4x400m for USA’s 3:00.86 and in the women’s 4x400m for Jamaica with 3:26.58.

Des Moines, April 24/25

Olympic champion Kirani James won the 400m in a fast world lead of 44.22.

Aleec Harris ran a world-leading 13.16 in the men s 110m hurdles to defeat world champion David Oliver, who was second in 13.19 with world record-holder Aries Merritt fourth in 13.37.

Francene McCorory improved the 400m world lead to 50.13 in beating Olympic champion Sanya Richards-Ross by almost a second.

Jasmine Stowers improved her PB from 12.71 to 12.40 to set a world lead in the 100m hurdles and go into the world all-time top 20.

Former Olympic champion Dawn Harper-Nelson led the rest of a top class field three metres back in 12.71. European champion Tiffany Porter was seventh in 12.90.

Olympic high jump bronze medallist Robbie Grabarz cleared 2.16m on his comeback after injury.

Loughborough, April 25

Taylor Campbell set a British junior hammer record with 76.81m. That betters the 76.67m thrown by Peter Smith in 2009.

Cardiff, April 26

Aled Davies threw a personal best of 52.85m which is also an unofficial F42 discus world record.

Watford Open, April 22

Scott Halsted’s 3000m victory in a PB 8:15.98 puts him top of the UK under-20 outdoor rankings.
