A look at some of the top performances from the past week including some impressive early-season marks by British athletes in the United States

From road race action in the UK to some top track marks in the US, here’s a look at some of the performances recorded in the past week.

Track

NTC Pure Athletics Sprint Elite Meet, Clermont, April 18

European 100m hurdles champion Tiffany Porter was just 0.05 outside her British record when she won in a time of 12.56. European 60m hurdles silver medallist Lucy Hatton improved her PB from 13.20 to 12.93 in her heat and then to 12.84 in the final to move to sixth UK all-time and second behind only Sally Gunnell on the UK under-23 all-time list. The bronze medallist from Prague, Serita Solomon, whose PB is 13.09, ran 12.69 but had an illegal 2.6mps tailwind behind her.

Dan Bramble, who had not previously beaten eight metres in the long jump, improved by a massive 30 centimetres to win with 8.21m which puts him fifth on the British all-time list. He narrowly beat world silver medallist Ignisious Gaisah (8.19m) and Olympic triple jump champion Christian Taylor (8.18m).

Shara Proctor won the women’s long jump with a 6.77m jump.

Jack Green had a winning return to the 400m hurdles, clocking 50.23 when contesting the event for the first time since 2013.

James Ellington recorded 20.49 in the 200m to finish third behind Kenyan Carvin Nkanata who set a world-leading and national record 20.14.

World junior champion Machel Cedenio from Trinidad and Tobago set a PB in the 400m of 45.09 to shave 0.04 off the PB he set when winning the global under-20 title in Eugene last year.

Double European sprint champion Dafne Schippers won the 100m in a windy 10.90.

Rio de Janeiro, April 19

Usain Bolt won the 100m in 10.12 from Ryan Bailey in 10.24.

Two-time Olympic champion Veronica Campbell-Brown won in 11.04 from former world champion Carmelita Jeter who timed 11.19.

Walnut, April 18

There was a Canadian long jump record and world-leading 6.98m/0.0 by Christabel Nettey. Jeff Henderson’s 8.50m/1.8 PB was also a world lead.

Baton Rouge, April 18

NCAA Indoor 400m champion Vernon Norwood improved to 44.44, the second fastest time in the world this year. The 2008 Olympic silver medalist Richard Thompson of Trinidad and Tobago clocked 10.04/1.0 in the 100m.

Waco, April 18

Courtney Okolo set a world-leading 50.99 at 400m with Olympic champion Sanya Richards-Ross third in 51.49.

Road

ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon, April 19

Paul Martelletti won the men’s race in 2:17:47. Georgie Bruinvels made an impressive debut and won the women’s race in a course record 2:37:16.

Morrisons Great Edinburgh Run, April 19

Jessica Coulson won the women’s race having only been back running since earlier this month after injury problems. The 2012 Euro Cross under-23 champion clocked 56:06 for the 10-mile course, with Scot Rhona Auckland runner up in 56:12 as she raced a distance longer than 10km for the first time. Ireland’s Maria McCambridge was third in 56:21.

“It was my 25th birthday yesterday, so it was a nice present,” said Coulson. “I got away a little bit on the big hill between miles four and five. I didn’t really want to go that early but Rhona wasn’t coming with me so I just kept going from there.”

Ethiopia’s Tsedat Abeje Ayana won the men’s race in 48:44 ahead of Andrew Lemoncello with 50:02 and Peter Huck with 50:30.

“It was a lot better than last week,” said US-based Scot Lemoncello, who finished fifth in the BM10k in Brighton the weekend before. “Last week got my legs going a wee bit and I felt a lot stronger over the longer distance today.”

Cheshire 10km, April 18

Altrincham’s Mohammed Abu Rezeq clocked 29:12 for victory ahead of Tipton’s Ryan McLeod with 29:29.

Oswestry’s Alison Lavender won the women’s race in 34:34 ahead of Charnwood runner Emily Whitmore with 34:56.

Enschede Marathon, April 19

Kenyan Evans Cheruiyot won the 47th running of this race in 2:09:40, with two others inside 2:10.

HAJ Hannover Marathon, April 19

Kenyan Jacob Cheshari (2:09:32) and Tunisian Souad Ait Salem (2:27:21) gained victories.

Linz, April 19

Kenya s Antony Maratim won easily in a PB of 2:09:39.

Yangzhou Jianzhen International Half Marathon, April 19

Four runners finished under the hour with Ethiopia s Mosinet Geremew winning in a course record and Chinese all-comers record of 59:52. He was followed closely by Geoffrey Kirui (59:55), last year s champion Nguse Amlosom (59:55) and Vincent Yator (59:55).

The women s race was won by Kenya s Flomena Cheyech just edging last year s runner-up Worknesh Degefa by one second, 68:36 to 68:37.

Walks

RWA 20km Championships, Hillingdon, April 18

Tom Bosworth won by ten minutes in a time of 89:16.

Heather Lewis won the women’s race in 1:43:36 from 17 year-old Emma Achurch’s 1:45:29.

Alan Bertram Spring Memorial Open, Loughborough, April 19

Mark Dry won the hammer competition with 71.96m. Under-20 Rebecca Keating was the women’s winner with 56.65m.

Taylor Campbell 72.75m to win the under-20 men’s competition.
