While Mo Farah was record-breaking at the Lisbon Half Marathon there were a number of other top performances around the world including a PB and win for Lily Partridge at the Reading Half

The major performance of the weekend came in Lisbon with Mo Farah breaking the European half marathon record on his way to victory, but there were a number of other notable performances.

Road

Vitality Reading Half Marathon, March 22

English National and British cross-country champion Lily Partridge added to her victories with a women’s win and English title as she smashed her PB with 70:32.

Kenyan Gladys Yator was second in 70:46 while Alyson Dixon was third in 71:30.

Helen Clitheroe was first Vet in 73:03 to defeat Emma Stepto by around half a minute and win English bronze.

Kenyan Amos Kiplagat was an easy men’s winner in 63:10.

Paul Pollock was second and Ian Kimpton was first Briton and took the English title in 64:31.

Venlo, Netherlands, March 22

Times might have been slower than in Portugal but they were still impressive and Kenyan Alfers Lagat won in 60:33 from Ezrah Sang’s 60:36.

Track

Kingston, Jamaica, March 21

The best two marks came in the throws. Fedrick Dacres won the discus with 66.40m while Commonwealth Games shot champion O’Dayne Richards won his event with 20.94m.

Double Olympic sprint champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce ran the 400m as part of her strength training and was fourth in 55.67.

Nairobi, Kenya, March 21

World 1500m champion Asbel Kiprop set a world lead in the 800m with 1:44.4 to beat Alfred Kipketer’s 1:45.0. Ronald Kwemoi, the Commonwealth Games silver medallist, ran the fastest 1500m with a time of 3:37.1.

Eaubonne, March 21

World triple jump champion Teddy Tamgho returned to competition with 16.78m on having not competed since 2013, as he fractured his tibia and then missed three doping tests and had to serve a one year ban.

Dudince, March 21

Slovakian Matej Toth went third all-time in the 50km walk with a national record time of 3:34:38.

Melbourne, March 21

World leads included Tom Walsh s New Zealand shot record of 21.37m while South Africa s Sunette Viljoen won the javelin with 66.62m.

Olympic champion and world record-holder David Rudisha won the 800m lists with 1:44.94 while another Olympic champion Sally Pearson won the sprint hurdles in 12.93.

Cross country

SIAB Schools International Cross Country, Dublin, March 21

England dominated the event winning all four team races and winning three individual titles.

Sabrina Sinha followed up her English Schools and Inter-Counties victories with another title after winning the inter girls’ race decisively while fellow Kent athlete Kathleen Faes repeated her English Schools and National victories to take the junior girls title.

Isaac Akers, who was only eighth in the English Schools, won the inter boys’ race while Ireland’s Darragh McElhinney took the junior boys’ title comfortably though he was followed home by five English runners.
