A look ahead to the European Masters Indoor Championships in Torun

Great Britain’s veteran athletes will be seeking to outdo their senior counterparts at the European Masters Indoor Championships in Torun, Poland, from March 23-28.

Among the 233 Brits will be new runner Charles Eugster, who aims to improve the world M95 200m record that he set at Lee Valley earlier this month.

World indoor M40 sprints record-holder Darren Scott missed the British championships to concentrate on this event and, now in the M45s, looks to add to his record. In the same group, Jason Carty and Mark Dunwell will clash in the 60m, while Ellena Ruddock battles with Spain s Coraline Garcia in the W35 sprints.

Caroline Powell will be seeking W60 sprint titles, but Helen Godsell tops the 60m entries. France has Nicole Alexis in the W65 sprints, boasting 81.5 and 26.86.

The jumps see Carole Filer looking to improve her 4.46m W55 long and 1.45m high jump records, while Mark Johnson hopes to have overcome the injury which stopped him competing in the British event to take the M50 pole vault. Irie Hill tops the entries in the W45 pole vault, as does Ayamba Akim in the W40 high jump.

Steve Linsell moves up to contest the M50 high jump against 1.90m performer Marco Segatel.

Guy Bracken set an M50 British 1500m record at Lee Valley and is top of the 3000m entries. Louise Rudd heads the 1500m listings but will battle 2:03 800m runner Dorota Ustianowska over 3000m, where the Pole has run 9:30.

W65s Angela Copson and Ros Tabor will resume their rivalry in the W65 age group over 1500m and cross country.

Arthur Thomson heads the M75 entries in both track and road walks, while Ian Richards (M65), who is up against Bogislaw Siedel and Francosco Reis (M50), should also figure in the medals.

Former senior international Mensah Elliott will clash with Liam Collins in the M35 60m hurdles.

In the throws, the outstanding performer is Germany s M40 18.34m shot putter, Andy Aittmag
