Gareth Warburton to return to racing after doping banPublished by
Welsh middle-distance runner to compete for the first time since his six-month suspension at this weekend’s Welsh Athletics Indoor International in CardiffGareth Warburton is to return to racing after a six-month doping ban as he contests the 800m at the Welsh Athletics Indoor International in Cardiff on Sunday. The Welsh middle-distance runner, who finished fourth over 800m at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi, was withdrawn from the 2014 Commonwealth Games team along with fellow Welsh athlete Rhys Williams after the pair failed doping tests in the run up to the Glasgow event. At the time, both athletes said they had not knowingly taken any banned substances and later spoke out after the announcement of their bans warning athletes to not take any supplements. Warburton last competed in July last year. He will make his return as a guest athlete in the 800m at Cardiff’s National Indoor Athletics Centre. Other athletes set to compete at the event on Sunday include Aled Davies in the shot put and Luke Cutts in the pole vault as some of Wales under-20 athletes line up in an international match event against England.
