An 11-strong team has been selected for the ultra event in Turin in AprilBritish Athletics has named an 11-strong Great Britain team for the IAU 24 Hour World Championships in Turin, Italy, on April 11-12. Emily Gelder, who won bronze at the 2012 edition of the event in Katowice in Poland, leads the women’s team. The Welsh ultra-runner (pictured above) will be joined by 2013 European bronze medallist Sharon Law, Isobel Wykes and Karen Hathaway. Scottish athletes Fionna Ross and Debbie Martin-Consani complete the women’s team, with Martin-Consani’s husband Marco featuring on the men’s team. The women’s team finished just outside the world medals when the championships were last held in 2013 in Steenbergen, Netherlands, but their fourth-place secured European team silver, with the 2015 event again incorporating the European Championships. As well as Marco Consani, the five-strong men’s team includes Steve Holyoak, who was the highest-placed GB athlete in Netherlands two years ago, and Robbie Britton, who at 28 is the youngest member of the team. Britton ran 239.008km in 2013. Pat Robbins and Dan Lawson join them in Italy. “This is the strongest team we have put into the field and they will be fighting hard to follow in the footsteps of our successful 100km squad who secured medals at their recent World Championships,” said team manager Richard Brown.
