Both Welsh athletes currently suspended from competition after failing drugs tests

The doping hearings of Rhys Williams and Gareth Warburton have been delayed until December.

Both Welsh athletes were provisionally suspended and withdrawn from their Commonwealth Games team in July after being charged with violating anti-doping rules.

The two athletes have both said how they did not knowingly take any banned substance, with 2012 European 400m hurdles gold medallist Rhys Williams saying at the time how he was “utterly devastated” about the news of the anti-doping rule violation. Warburton, who finished fourth over 800m at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi and formed part of the GB team at the London 2012 Olympic Games, described news of his anti-doping rule violation as a “great shock”.

Their hearings had been due to take place around the end of October and early November, but on Tuesday BBC Sport reported the delay and stated how this was so the cases could be heard together.

Both athletes used products from Welsh supplement company Mountain Fuel and it is understood that there have been investigations into whether any of the company’s products could have resulted in the failed doping tests. The BBC reported how Mountain Fuel’s chief executive Darren Foote has said in the past that he is confident that the supplement is not to blame.
