A collection of some of the past week’s results including the Cheshire 10km, IAU 50km World Trophy Final and Shanghai Marathon

The 2013-14 World Marathon Majors series came to a close with the TCS New York City Marathon on Sunday but there was plenty of other athletics action taking place across the globe.

Road

TCS New York City Marathon, November 2

Wilson Kipsang and Mary Keitany made it a Kenyan double. The pair clocked 2:10:59 and 2:25:07 respectively in cold and windy conditions.

Britons Craig Hopkins and James Kelly placed 21st and 28th with 2:23:49 and 2:25:56 respectively, while Amy Clements ran a 2:52:32 PB for 24th in the women’s race.

Kurt Fearnley claimed the men s wheelchair title for the fifth time as Brit Simon Lawson finished 11th, while victory in the women s event went to Tatyana McFadden who adds this win to those in Boston, London and Chicago this year. Britain s Shelly Woods placed eighth.

NYRR Dash to the Finish Line 5K, November 1

USA’s Donn Cabral and Gwen Jorgensen won with respective times of 14:24 and 16:03.

Second in the men’s race was Yonas Mebrahtu with 14:31, while Siraw Kebede Gelaw clocked the same time for third.

Behind Jorgensen, Etaferahu Temesgen claimed the runner-up spot in 16:07 while Britain’s Steph Twell was third in 16:12. Beth Potter was also in the women’s top 10 with 16:59 for ninth.

Shanghai International Marathon, China, November 2

South Africa’s Stephen Mokoka successfully defended his title and Ethiopia’s Tigist Tufa won the women’s race. Both athletes lowered the course records with times of 2:08:43 and 2:21:52 respectively.

Ethiopia’s Abreham Cherkos and Stephen Chemlany of Kenya ran 2:08:47 and 2:08:56 for second and third respectively, while joining Tufa in the women’s top three were Kenya’s Caroline Kilel with 2:25:22 and Misiker Mekonnin of Ethiopia with 2:29:03.

Cheshire 10km, November 2

Preston’s Helen Clitheroe (pictured) broke the women’s course record with 32:45, the 40-year-old’s quickest time for the distance on the roads since 2011. Sophie Cowper of Lincoln Wellington was second in a 35:15 PB and Charnwood’s Gemma Hillier third with 35:38.

Mohammed Abu-Rezeq of Altrincham won the men’s race from East Cheshire Harrier Patrick Gardiner and Salford’s Ben Riddell in a 29:11 PB to also break the course record.

IAU 50km World Trophy Final, Doha, November 1

Zimbabwe’s Collen Makaza and Emily Harrison of the USA were victorious, clocking 3:00:41 and 3:32:30 respectively in the hot conditions.

Behind Makaza, who regained the title having first won it in 2010, was Britain’s Phil Anthony who finished second in 3:01:26. Harm Sengers of the Netherlands was third in 3:05:01 as Britain’s Paul Martelletti was fourth in 3:11:05.

A British athlete filled the runner-up spot in the women’s race, too, as Jo Zakrzewski clocked 3:33:23 to finish clearly ahead of Canada’s Catrin Jones with 3:37:57.

Cross country

Saucony English National Cross Country Relays, Mansfield, November 1

Aldershot, Farnham & District successfully defended the senior women’s title at Berry Hill Park, while Stockport Harriers’ senior men regained the title they won in 2011.

AFD’s Lily Partridge ran the fastest leg in the senior women’s race, while Hallamshire s Andrew Heyes was quickest in the senior men’s race.
