Law firm Lindsays in three-year partnership, while Laura Muir is among record number of entries for Saturday’s Scottish relays

Laura Muir is to return to cross country action at Saturday’s Scottish National Cross Country Relay Championships, the first event to be held under the new sponsorship of the Scottish cross country season by law firm Lindsays.

The partnership between Scottish Athletics and Lindsays is to include a series of regional and Scottish national events, with the 2014-15 winter season the first part of the three-year agreement.

Muir, who broke the Scottish 1500m record this summer, is among the record number of entries for Saturday’s relays at Cumbernauld Park, with 2241 athletes set to compete on the country.

The 21-year-old will again run for Glasgow University, having last October clocked the fastest women’s lap as she took her team from 51st to 13th. She will be joined at Cumbernauld by the likes of fellow Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games athletes Callum Hawkins of Kilbarchan AAC and Central AC’s Ross Houston.

Muir’s coach Andy Young also confirmed that the Dundee Hawkhill Harrier is due to defend her title at next month’s Scottish National 4km Championships in Glasgow.

The ‘Lindsays Scottish Cross Country Season’ kicks off with the national relays and includes a total of six events, with athletes to compete for a Lindsays trophy at the National Cross Country Championships in Falkirk on February 22.

“We are delighted to now be working in partnership with Lindsays and are very pleased to announce a three-year sponsorship for the cross country season,” said Nigel Holl, chief executive of Scottish Athletics.

“Lindsays have provided us with legal support in recent years and it has been excellent. The Lindsays Scottish Cross Country Season takes in both our annual district events and the three main national events through the winter the relays, the short course and of course the National Cross Country at Falkirk itself. We see cross country as part of the very fabric of the sport.”
