Olympic hurdles champion looks ahead to the Sainsbury’s Anniversary Games

Having struggled with an injury during the early part of the season, Sally Pearson’s focus has been getting back to full fitness ahead of the Commonwealth Games.

And the Olympic 100m hurdles champion knows she has the perfect opportunity to lay down a marker against one of her big rivals for the Commonwealth title at the Sainsbury s Anniversary Games in London on Sunday.

Pearson takes on the likes of England s Tiffany Porter on a temporary track in the unique surroundings of Horse Guards Parade looking to put her recent hamstring problems behind her.

“I think it s fantastic, obviously it s not all finished yet but it s looking great and the surroundings are beautiful so it s going to be a very exciting event,” said the 27-year-old, who beat Porter by one hundredth of a second to claim third at the Glasgow Diamond League last weekend behind US duo Queen Harrison and Lolo Jones, clocking 12.87.

“I ve done a few of these (street athletics events) and they are always fun, the Brits really know how to put athletics on the map and get us huge support.”

On her year so far, she added: “It hasn t been a fantastic season I got injured at the start of it at the Rome Diamond League and right now I m just getting back into it and trying to be as competitive as I can.

“It s just about getting faster and getting quicker over the hurdles and getting into competitive fitness.”

Sainsbury s is proud to support British Athletics through the Summer Series events and is committed to helping young people lead healthier, more active lifestyles. For more information visit www.sainsburys.co.uk/legacy
