Christine Ohuruogu and Richard Kilty among those on 24-strong Bahamas-bound teamA 24-strong Great Britain team has been named for the inaugural IAAF World Relays to be held in Nassau, Bahamas, on May 24-25. World indoor 60m champion Richard Kilty and world 400m champion Christine Ohuruogu are among those included, with GB sending teams for the men’s and women’s 4x100m and 4x400m events. Two more events, the 4x800m and 4x1500m, will also be held. Ohuruogu and Kilty will be joined by the likes of Sopot 4x400m relay medallists Eilidh Child, Shana Cox, Margaret Adeoye, Jamie Bowie, Nigel Levine and Conrad Williams, while Harry Aikines-Aryeetey, Dwain Chambers, James Ellington, Asha Philip, Desiree Henry and Jodie Williams are among those named for the shorter event. The top eight teams in both events the GB team is participating in will automatically qualify for the 2015 IAAF World Championships in Beijing. “These championships provide a vital opportunity to prepare teams capable of winning medals at this year’s European Championships and future senior major championships,” said UKA performance director Neil Black. “The team selected is a blend of experience and youth and one that I am sure will rise to the occasion of this unique format. “These championships also provide a good opportunity for our relay squads to qualify for the 2015 World Championships.” Among those missing from the team is James Dasaolu, the 9.91 100m man who would have been a likely addition to the sprint relay team but is still recovering from the hamstring tear he sustained in the lead-up to the World Indoor Championships.
