Trafford AC to host inaugural 10k Track FestivalPublished by
Organisers looking to attract over 400 entries for six hours of racing at Run Britain Grand Prix eventMusic and special guests are planned for the inaugural BMC/Trafford 10,000m Track Festival on September 6 as organisers look to “spice up” the meeting. Held in conjunction with the Northern Athletics Championships, the races will take place at Longford Park’s famously fast track and the event will form part of the Run Britain Grand Prix Series. “This meeting fits in with our commitment to enhance opportunities for elite distance athletes and also cater for those who just want to go out there and record a fast 10km track time,” commented Tim Brennan, chairman of the BMC. Organisers say the day-long programme of races will cater for elite to recreational runners, with the men’s and women’s A races to be paced. “This meet aims to expand those opportunities for 10km athletes and provide an innovative approach to track meetings,” explained race organiser Steve Green. “We are looking for over 400 entries and six hours of racing so it should be an exciting day.” He added: “We’re looking to spice up the meeting with music, great commentary from resident announcer Mike Harris and a few other ideas, with hopefully some special guests.” Entry fees are 6 for BMC members and 12 for non-members, with all athletes receiving a commemorative medal and chip recorded time.
