Vicaut runs twice

The jubilee 30th Spitzen Leichtathletik meet in Lucerne saw two quick times by 100m world leader Jimmy Vicaut, just 10 minutes apart.

First the Frenchman clocked 9.98 but the race did not count after the field was called back for a false start and the gun was not heard by three sprinters – Vicaut, Britain’s Richard Kilty and USA’s BeeJay Lee – who finished the race.

After ten minutes, Vicaut won again in 10.08 (-0.6) ahead of Ibrahim Meite with 10.26. There was a tie for third between Britain’s James Dasaolu, who had clocked 10.15 in an earlier race, and Kilty, with both clocking 10.31.

Lee won the 200m in 20.66 (-2.3) over Aldemir Gomes with 20.72, Britain’s Danny Talbot with 20.79 and Ameer Webb with 20.80.

Britain’s Darryl Neita clocked 11.30 (-1.2) to equal her PB and win the 100m, while Gina Luckenkemper of Germany ran 22.91 (-1.4) to win the 200m.

Despite the cold and partly rainy conditions, there was a strong crowd to witness three Swiss wins. Nichole Buchler claimed victory in the pole vault with 4.70m, Kariem Hussein won the 400m hurdles in 49.47 and Fabienne Schlumpf won the steeplechase in 9:53.61.

USA’s Queen Harrison with 12.84 (-0.7) and Britain’s Lawrence Clarke with 13.42 (-0.7) were the best in the sprint hurdles events, while Denmark’s record-holder Sara Petersen opened her summer season with a win in the 400m hurdles, clocking 55.20 ahead of Britain’s Eilidh Doyle with 55.57.

Britain’s Lynsey Sharp clocked 2:02.87 to win the 800m ahead of Iceland’s Anita Hinriksdottir 2:03.17, while Bosnia’s world medallist Amel Tuka ran 1:45.56 to beat Kenya’s Alfred Kipketer with 1:46.00 in the men’s event.

Valerie Adams got the women’s shot put win with 19.37m, Kathryn Mitchell topped the javelin with 62.97m and Christabel Nettey leapt 6.56m (-1.0) to win the long jump in difficult conditions.

Makhloufi 1:44.40 in Nancy

Olympic 1500m champion Taofik Makhloufi from Algeria won the 800m at the Meeting Stanislas Nancy with 1:44.40 over Poland’s Marcin Lewandowski who ran 1:44.91.

That was one of the highlights of the event which had cold weather (14 degrees) and some rain.

Christophe Lemaitre was the best in the 200m with 20.34 (+0.3) ahead of Cuban Roberto Skyers’s 20.54.

In the 1500m, Moroccan Fouad Al Kaam clocked 3:36.15 over Mekonnen Gebremedhin’s 3:36.43 and Johan Cronje with 3:37.49.

There were other French wins by European champion Yohann Diniz with 18:42.96 in the 5000m track walk, Dimitri Bascou with 13.35 (+1.2) in the sprint hurdles and Floria Guei with 51.35 in a 400m which saw Britain’s Perri Shakes-Drayton, who continues her comeback after injury, clock 52.42 and Christine Ohuruogu run 52.52.

China’s Xue Changrui cleared 5.75m to top the pole vault beating Valentin Lavillenie with 5.65m. USA’s world indoor champion Nia Ali won the hurdles in 13.04 (-1.7), Angela Tenorio from Ecuador the 100m in 11.40 (-0.4) and Liadagmis Povea from Cuba the triple jump with 13.69m (0.0).

Malika Akkaoui from Morocco won the 800m in 2:03.06 and Tatsyana Khaladovich of Belarus the javelin with 60.81m.

Stockholm shot put

The men’s shot put event at the BAUHAUS-galan will be held on Wednesday ahead of the main Diamond League meeting on Thursday.

World indoor champion Tom Walsh from New Zealand, top all-time junior Konrad Bukowiecki and Canadian Tim Nedow are among those in action.

The event will be held in the Ralambshovsparken park. There will be also competitions held for young shot putters and anybody who would like to try the event.

Kiplagat for AJC Peachtree Road Race

Two-time world marathon champion Edna Kiplagat will compete in the AJC Peachtree Road Race in Atlanta on July 4, informs organisers.

The Kenyan finished second in the Great Manchester Run last month in 31:25 for a time just seven seconds outside her PB which was set in this race in 2010.

Other top names include Ethiopia s Buzunesh Deba, New Zealand s Kim Smith and home favourite Neely Spence Gracey.

First and second last year, Ben Payne and Britain’s Scott Overall, will compete in the men s race along with Rio-bound Jared Ward.

Cork City Sports

The international meet of Cork City Sports on June 28 will have in the men’s mile Australian Ryan Gregson as the favourite. Also in the 3000m, Collis Birmingham should fight as another Australian for the top spot.

Ireland’s four-time Paralympic medallist Jason Smyth goes in search of a qualifying time for this year s Olympics in Rio and will race opposition from a strong group of international sprinters representing six countries.

Special guest will be hammer legend Yuriy Sedykh who in 1984 set one of his world records at the Cork City Sports with a distance of 86.34m.
