Beijing 2008 sample reanalysis is said to have detected a banned substance in Carter’s ‘B’ sample, meaning the Jamaican 4x100m relay team, which included Usain Bolt, could lose 2008 Olympic gold

The Beijing 2008 ‘B’ sample of Jamaican sprinter Nesta Carter has also tested positive for a banned substance, according to reports.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has retested 454 selected doping samples from the 2008 Olympic Games, with Carter’s among them. Last week it was reported that Carter’s ‘A’ sample from the Games included the stimulant methylhexanamine.

On Thursday (June 9), both the Jamaica Gleaner and Reuters reported that the sprinter’s ‘B’ sample had tested positive for the same banned substance.

Carter’s reported positive retests puts Jamaica’s Beijing 4x100m gold at risk as he ran the opening leg of the relay event in which the team also featuring Michael Frater, Usain Bolt and Asafa Powell clocked a then world-record time of 37.10 to take the 2008 title.

Carter also formed part of Jamaica s gold medal-winning sprint relay teams at the London 2012 Olympics and the 2011, 2013 and 2015 World Championships. He won world indoor 60m silver in 2012 and 100m bronze at the world championships in Moscow in 2013.

According to both the Jamaica Gleaner and Reuters, neither Carter nor his agent have responded to requests for comment.

The news comes the day after reports that Russian hammer thrower Kirill Ikonnikov, who placed fifth at the London 2012 Olympics, has been handed a life ban for doping.
