Sarah Tunstall claims victory at International Smarna Gora Mountain Running Race to secure the overall Mountain Running World Cup title along with Andrew DouglasSarah Tunstall and Andrew Douglas made it a British double at the WMRA Mountain Running World Cup with their performances at the final event in the six-race series, the International Smarna Gora Mountain Running Race, on Saturday (October 3). Tunstall was sitting second in the rankings with one race to go and her victory in Slovenia pushed her to the top as she clocked 52:59 to beat Italy s Alice Gaggi with 54:03 and Poland s Dominika Wisniewska-Ulfik with 54:27. “Really chuffed to cap off Summer 2015 with a win at @WMRAmountainrun Smarna Gora,” tweeted Tunstall, who had placed fourth at the recent World Mountain Running Championships in North Wales. “Great race, ppl + performances.” Uganda s Fred Musobo, winner in Wales two weeks ago, was again victorious in Slovenia but Douglas’ fifth place finish saw him secure the overall series title and become the first British male winner. Musobo clocked 42:46 ahead of Italy s Alex Baldaccini with 42:51 and Douglas’ compatriot Robbie Simpson, the world bronze medallist, who finished third in 43:29. Douglas clocked 44:31 behind David Schneider of Switzerland’s 43:50. “World MR Cup Champ 2015 – sweet moment to round off a packed mountain running season!” tweeted Douglas. Simpson finished second behind Douglas in the overall rankings, with Schneider third.
