IAAF World Championships in pictures

Images that capture some of the stand-out moments from the Beijing event

Statistically the Beijing IAAF World Championships was the world’s best track meeting since the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

New IAAF president Seb Coe described the event as an “absolutely spectacular championships” with “such sterling performances”.

It is said that a picture is worth a thousand words, so here we take a look back at some of the top moments from the nine-day event, one photo at a time.

Day seven

Liu Hong gets China’s first gold of Beijing 2015 with race walk win.

Dafne Schippers

Dafne Schippers wins 200m gold and goes third all-time as Dina Asher-Smith breaks British record, while Sergey Shubenkov speeds to sprint hurdles glory.

Shara Proctor breaks British record to secure long jump silver.

Day eight

Mo Farah

Mo Farah completes another distance double with 5000m victory.

Ashton Eaton

Ashton Eaton breaks world decathlon record, while Jamaica wins both men’s and women’s 4x100m relays and the GB’s women’s team breaks the national record.

Day nine

Mare Dibaba wins Ethiopia’s first women s world marathon gold in a sprint finish, while Almaz Ayana beats Genzebe Dibaba over 5000m and Asbel Kiprop takes 1500m title.

GB M4x400 Beijing

USA win the men’s 4x400m relay and Jamaica the women’s as both GB teams bag bronze.
