The last time Mo Farah ran 10,000m at the Prefontaine Classic he broke the European record with his time of 26:46.57. That was in 2011 and on Friday (May 29) the double Olympic world and European champion returns to Eugene to form part of a field which includes seven men who have gone sub-27 minutes.

That list of seven, also featuring the likes of world bronze medallist Paul Tanui and his fellow Kenyans Josphat Bett and Emmanuel Bett, doesn’t include world cross-country champion, Geoffrey Kamworor, either, with his PB of 27:06.35 also run at the 2011 Pre Classic.

The 10,000m field released by organisers on Monday listed:

The 10,000m forms part of Friday’s ‘Distance Night in Eugene’ ahead of Saturday’s Diamond League action.

This year’s event marks 40 years since the death of Steve Prefontaine and top line-ups have also been announced for the 5000m races.

Americans Galen Rupp and Bernard Lagat are set to be joined by the likes of Ethiopia’s Yenew Alamirew and his compatriot Ibrahim Jeilan, the 2011 world 10,000m champion, in the men’s race, while the women’s field includes Ethiopia’s world indoor record-holder Genzebe Dibaba.

On Saturday, Renaud Lavillenie is set to make his return in the pole vault after missing the Doha meeting through injury, while Mutaz Esssa Barshim is among those in the high jump.

Britons Shara Proctor and Lorraine Ugen compete in the long jump following their respective leaps of 6.95m and 6.92m in Doha and they will again go up against the world No.1 Tianna Bartoletta.

Over on the track, Olympic champion Allyson Felix, who clocked 21.98 over 200m in Doha, steps up to take on the 400m, while Kirani James and LaShawn Merritt again go head-to-head in the men’s event. Justin Gatlin makes his 200m season debut against a field including the likes of Alonso Edward and Nickel Ashmeade.

David Oliver, Orlando Ortega, Pascal Martinot-Lagarde, Sergey Shubenkov and Aries Merritt are set to feature in the 110m hurdles.

Among the 800m entries are Nijel Amos and Mohammed Aman in the men’s event and Eunice Sum and Britain’s Lynsey Sharp in the women’s. Her fellow Britons Hannah England and Laura Weightman are set to run the 1500m alongside the likes of Jenny Simpson and Sifan Hassan. The preliminary entry list for the Bowerman Mile includes Asbel Kiprop, Silas Kiplagat and Ayanleh Souleiman.

The above entry information is provisional and was correct as of May 26. Preliminary entry lists can be found here
