European 10,000m champion to officially start the Brighton Marathon and 10km event on April 12

Jo Pavey is to officially start next year’s Brighton Marathon and BM10k event on April 12.

The European 10,000m champion will also set the more than 3000 ‘mini milers’ on their way the day before as well as attend the two-day Brighton Marathon Exhibition.

Pavey – who recently claimed an AW Readers Choice Awards hat-trick after receiving the most votes in the British female, British masters and moment of the year categories – won her first major title at the European Championships in Zurich this summer, claiming 10,000m gold just 10 days after she bagged Commonwealth 5000m bronze in Glasgow.

The 41-year-old also received this year’s British Athletics Writers Association Cliff Temple Award for No.1 female and has been named on the shortlist for the 2014 BBC Sports Personality of the Year award.

“Jo is not only a fantastic athlete but an inspiration to us all because she manages to combine a normal family life with all the demands an athlete faces,” said Brighton Marathon founder Tim Hutchings, with Pavey having given birth to her second child only last year.

“Having tried everything over the years to win that elusive gold medal, she now recognises that the secret ingredient to her most successful year ever is a happy family life that has given her the emotional strength and stability to help her achieve the highest honours.”
